Two gold chains that look alike can have very different prices. Here is what sets the price, so you know what you are paying for.
1. How much gold is in it (weight)
This is the biggest part of the price. More grams of gold means a higher price. Gold's market price also goes up and down, so chain prices can change over time.
2. The karat
18K has more pure gold than 14K, and 14K more than 10K. So for the same chain, 18K costs the most and 10K costs the least. See 10K vs 14K.
3. The width
A wider chain uses much more gold. Going from a thin chain to a thick one can multiply the price.
4. The length
A longer chain uses more gold, so the price goes up a little with every extra inch.
5. Solid or semi-solid
A solid chain has more gold than a semi-solid chain of the same width, so it costs more. Semi-solid gives you the same look for less. See solid vs semi-solid.
